As a child, Marla used to love making Barbie clothes from scraps of fabric and colorful Kleenex tissue. She made fashion sketches and taught herself how to needlepoint and immersed herself in arts and crafts. Fast-forward a few decades, and Marla has now been designing and sewing for over 16 years, where she taught herself how to make simple tote bags, then progressed to handbags and clutches, and later designed and constructed simple sundresses, before advancing to more complex bridal gowns. She has also worked as a professional tailor and in theater costume shops.

Before her professional work as a dressmaker and designer, Marla was an environmental studies major at a local former women’s college. Being mindful of the impact her consumer choices have on the environment and wildlife has always been important to her, and she wanted to translate those values into her business model by offering consignment gowns.

By giving these beautiful gowns a new life, it reduces the byproduct of waste and pollution to manufacture and ship new gowns, and also reduces the number of gowns that inevitably find their way into landfills. Femelle Bridal makes every effort to acquire fixtures, decor, and merchandise that are sustainable, used, upcycled or vintage. Whenever possible, we try to reduce, reuse and recycle. We hope that, in addition to your wedding dress, you will consider other sustainable ways to celebrate your wedding day.
